The new right in politics in Canada

Hi, my name is Timothy Johnson. Some of you may already know me as Michael but I was born Timothy. I have a message that I would like to share with my community and the world that I think will help guide our political leaders as they make decisions. The way I believe this message will be best delivered is to run for public office when the time comes, and with the new Wildrose Alliance party coming more and more into focus, I believe my views are needed now. I think to run as an independent in the Banff-Cochrane riding, and win, will enable this message to be put forth.
I, like I believe many others in Alberta and Canada, are afraid of the religious right. One that is anti-abortion and anti-gay and anti-anything that their conservative parents or media has preached. We all have sinned, as we are human, and I believe we should "Judge not, lest we be Judged". However for me, I am also leaned very much to the right, but, I think, in a much different way.
A little history is needed. I have had the opportunity to spend much of my early childhood growing up in Banff. It is a truly international town. I have friends from so many cultures it is hard to list them all but I will give you a few examples. One of my good friends from high school is an African American, others were Greek, French, German, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Lebanese, Isreali among so many others. There are restaurants and stores that cater to these groups in Banff making it so that wherever you are from in the world you would feel at home.
For religions, I have been exposed to so many. I had a good friend from India while I lived in Winnipeg who's family is Hindu. I studied Buddism and witnessed Buddist monks from Tibet as they spent days making a beautiful artistic creation out of coloured sand on a marble floor. When they finished, the swept it out with their hands, destroying the work. People took pictures of the artwork but they simply got up and walked out, not thinking of the past achievements or the ego of the work and continued on with their day. This is a lesson that will stay in my mind for some time. I was raised christian and went to the United Church as a child. I continue to practice yoga and also attend church on a regular basis.
I studied political science at the University of Calgary after high school and learned of global politics and studied philosophy of law as well as religion. These are some of the experiences that have guided my opinions.
So how could I be right wing you might say. Well, if you don't like it you only have the government of Canada to blame. In Banff, you must have a need to reside to live here. That is, you have to prove you have a job or business in order to buy property(that is only really a lease). Also, the rules to get a business licence are much more difficult than other places in Alberta where in many cases you don't even need one. Truly a buyer beware, supply and demand market place. In Banff, a town monitored by Parks Canada and the federal government, we "Albertans" have had to cope with the Liberal party of Canada for so long and they have historically almost been entirely elected by central Canada. I have tried to operate websites in the past and had to shut them down of fear of fines due to the fact I recieved phone calls from the town citing I did not have a business licence. Unable to pay the fees for the licence I had to comply causing some bitterness to say the least.
So to the right. It is of my opinion that people are for the most part born good. I have always had a big heart for children and having helped to raise four, and taken part in the lives of so many others, it is easy to see that children are good and society and factors in thier raising is what causes the pain and angish that brings about bad behavior. The smaller the government, people are able to do what they want, and are much more able to succeed in their dreams. Also, in our communities, as unfortuanate as it may sound, if you do not help all those in your community, it is not the less privilaged who will suffer, but the community as a whole. Crime often happens because people feel as though they are not fairly treated, cannot provide for their children, and go about doing things to "even the playing field". Big government and police are helpless to protect "the rich" from this. To me, if you want the power and prestige that comes with wealth in order to pad your ego, you should pay for your own security, not have the average taxpayer protect you.
Where I differ however, is likely from some of my Buddist and religious views that we do not OWN the earth. We do not OWN or children. A ring on your wifes finger does not allow you to dictate to her what she can do, and where she can go. It takes a village to raise a child as they say, and their is nothing more true.
The left wing wants to tax you so they can provide social services. In my experience, these very social services are often seem uninviting, they question you, look down at the poor, and are very detached from the human emotional contact that is really needed to help. This further causes people to feel excommunicated from society. Without these services. These people will show up at churches, community associations, and if the more fortunate don't do anything about it, they will literally show up at thier doors, and quite frankly, they will deserve it. But something you will also find, is that they are not bad people, they have just had some tough luck in life, often due to the system that hasn't helped them. With communities coming together in this way, you will all see what I have seen. It doesn't matter if the poor person has long hair and dressed like a "hippy". Or they are from a farm, or a Chinese Canadian or East Indian Canadian. We are all the same.
All too often I see people on the news blaming the government for not doing enough for the poor, or the sick. My question is. What are they doing for them?
Another thing, is that I would like to totally fund my campaign myself. Right now, I have no money. I believe that when this message circulates, bringing attention to my blog which includes an area guide for Banff and other links, I can be funded on my own. No large corporate lobbies are welcome. I would also like to see others run as independents as it was mentioned by Abraham Lincoln early in the Beginning of the United States democracy that a two party system should be feared.
Please read my blogs and share this message with your friends. The future of our great nation depends on it.
